Writing & Ranching – 2 Passions

Writing and ranching. My 2 passions. I just added 2 new pages to let you learn more!

Ranching: I grew up in the country and lived around farming and ranching my whole life. I love the lifestyle and can hardly wait until my husband and I can raise some of our cattle! I love horses and rodeo too. Breakaway roping and barrel racing are my 2 favorite sports. I’m just as eager to get a horse as I am to get cattle. It’s a big dream and often seems like a financial impossibility, but with God’s help I know it can happen!

Writing: I started writing for my local newspaper when I was in high school, got burned out and went to college for animal science, then changed my major to ag communications so I could start writing again.  I just can’t seem to get away from it. Writing is my gift from God and I hope to use it to my best ability. I’m not always the best writer, but I am working hard to make it better. Proverbs 31:16 says this about the Wife of Noble Character, “She considers a field and buys it, out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.” I am standing on this verse, believing that my earnings can come from this gift of writing and it will help us to buy our own vineyard (aka ranch for us!)! I haven’t made much money (at all!) writing yet, but I am believing God that I will so we can get out of debt, ranch and give to others! I am excited to share my journey with you and encourage you on yours!

41 Years Old When He Finally Got to Ranch

My grandparents, known as Granny and Papa, have been a huge part of my life. Until I went to college, I never lived more than 5 miles away from them.

Papa has always been a farmer to me, but in reality, he was just a farm hand until he was 41 years old! I am praying my husband and I are a lot younger than that when we get to ranch!

Check out my column to learn about Granny and Papa’s journey to ranching at the Fence Post.
