When I was growing up, riding horses – especially when I was breakaway roping or barrel racing – was one of my favorite things. But even though I loved to ride, I was far from being an amazing rider. This article from the DX Ranch has some great tips on becoming a more balanced horseman.
The author suggests working your weaker side (mine’s the left) more often. Doing simple things like brushing your teeth, carrying buckets and taking stairs with the weaker side can make a difference.
I’m going to start practicing simple tasks with my left hand and leg so when I do get a horse I’ll be a better rider. And, now that I think about it, I had better start working on my flexibility too…. never know when a girl could unexpectedly get a horse! 😉
