We all go through those times in life when living is just plain hard.
It’s no secret that life can be discouraging on a regular basis, but it’s even more disheartening when you are truly seeking God and you don’t feel like He is listening.
There are those days (or weeks or months) when you’re reading the Bible, praying, seeking wise counsel, crying out to God for help and in return you get …. nothing. It’s like God’s deaf or he cares about everyone in the world but you. You get no answer, no encouragement, no hope.
It’s during times like that that you just want to throw in the towel, give up and fall into despair. I have been there. I know what it’s like to cry out to God, pray, fast, read the Bible and then, after all that effort, feel like he’s not listening.
I don’t know why he lets us go through silent, hard times. There are at least a dozen people in my circle of family and friends who can relate. They are going through some hard stuff: brain cancer, lupus, stage 4 breast cancer, marriage problems. Many of them are depressed, and my heart aches for them. Nothing steals your joy or quality of life like depression. Add God’s silence on top of that and you have one hurting, desperate person.
There are no pat or cliché answers I can encourage you with to help you through those times. The only thing I know though, is that you have to keep going. Keep seeking God, keep praying and keep asking others to pray for you. Beg God to give you the strength to get through the next week, day, hour or minute.
And please, if you ever need prayer just leave me a comment here or on Facebook or send me a private message in the contact portion of this site.
Remember, that even if it doesn’t feel like it, there is always hope. I will pray that God will help you to believe that.
