There were so many great verses in today’s reading, it was hard to narrow down one to write about. Even if you aren’t following this reading plan, I’d recommend that you read these passages! Here’s the SOAP for today!
Numbers 32:20 – Deuteronomy 7:26
Scripture: “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These 40 years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.” ~ Deuteronomy 2:7
Observation: The Israelite people disobeyed God by not believing He would allow them to defeat the people in the land he promised them. As punishment for their disbelief, he made them wander for 40 years in the desert before he allowed them to enter the land. During that time the people disobeyed God again, and again and again. Even though they didn’t deserve it (and the mess of wandering in the desert was all their fault) , God still blessed them.
Application: The idea that God still blesses us even after we disobey is a huge encouragement to me. I often feel like I have messed up too much for God. I know he loves me, but I worry that he won’t bless me – something that is unbiblical! When it comes to owning a ranch I have a tendency to think that we have made too many wrong decisions (especially financial) for God to let us have one. While it is true that there are consequences for disobedience, God will be with us in the mess and still bless us. This verse proves it! Don’t let the devil keep you in that place of discouragement!
Prayer: Like you did with the Israelites, God, bless all the work of our hands. Watch over us even in the self-made valleys of our lives. I pray that we don’t have to stay in the valleys anywhere close to 40 years. Deliver us soon.
